Surgeon Consultation FAQs
HOW MUCH IS A CONSULTATION?
A standard consultation is $300.
HOW SOON CAN I GET A CONSULTATION?
Due to high demand, our plastic surgeons have busy schedules. We suggest scheduling in advance and avoid changing existing appointments. However, with proper management of their schedules, consultations can typically be arranged within 5 to 10 business days or up to 2 to 3 weeks.
On rare occasions, there may be longer waiting periods due to our surgeons’ participation in international events such as ASAPS/ISAPS (Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons/International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) or the Breast Masters in Sydney.
For more information on what sets us apart, please read our “20-point differences” on why choose us.
HOW DO I SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION OR SURGERY DATE?
Sometimes unexpected opportunities for surgery may arise due to cancellations. However, we recommend planning ahead to ensure you have enough time for proper rest and recovery after the procedure.
It’s important to have completed your initial consultations and the mandatory 7-day cooling off period before proceeding with surgery.
For your convenience, we offer initial consultations outside regular business hours and on Saturday mornings.
Our Patient Care Coordinator will be more than happy to provide you with further information and assist with any inquiries you may have. Feel free to reach out to us to explore the options that best suit your schedule and needs.
Planning and Scheduling Your Surgery FAQs
HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO WAIT FOR SURGERY?
We make an effort to accommodate special date requests and minimize wait times for both consultations and surgeries. However, there may be mandatory waiting periods (including a 7-day-cooling off period). If you have a specific date in mind, it’s best to reach out to us as early as possible to schedule your cosmetic or plastic surgery.
The wait time for surgery may vary depending on; the type of surgery, preparation requirements, and the time of year. Some surgeons may have a waiting period of up to six months, so early scheduling is recommended, especially for specific weeks or times of the year.
Waiting period FAQs
WHAT ARE THE MANDATORY WAITING PERIODS FOR COSMETIC SURGERY?
As of July 1st, 2023, new guidelines have been implemented, requiring patients to observe a mandatory 7-day cooling off period after attending two consultations. This period allows patients ample time to reflect on their decision and ensure they are making an informed choice regarding their desired procedure. It’s essential for patients to take advantage of this cooling off period to carefully consider their options and discuss any concerns or questions with their healthcare provider before proceeding with the surgery. These guidelines are designed to prioritize patient safety and well-being throughout their cosmetic surgery journey.
Furthermore, patients with insurance or undergoing medically necessary procedures may face delays due to the need for approval or coverage assessment, as well as providing necessary documentation and photos for rebate applications to Medicare or insurance companies.
For self-funded surgeries, surgery may be scheduled more quickly. Please ask about the availability of “stand-by” surgery lists and prices.
WHEN ARE THE PEAK AND BEST TIMES FOR SURGERY?
February and November tend to be the slower months for surgeries. Conversely, the start of school holidays tends to be busier times. Many patients opt for surgery either before or after Christmas to take advantage of the summer holidays for recovery. Other popular holiday periods for surgery include; Easter, mid-year breaks, and September school holidays.
Having surgery while the kids are in school can minimize disruption to the family. Some patients also choose winter months as a good time for plastic surgery as they can stay at home for recovery during the cooler months.
Age Limits on Plastic or Cosmetic Surgery FAQs
IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE FOR PLASTIC OR COSMETIC SURGERY?
While a minimum age of 18 is preferred, exceptions can be made for younger patients undergoing corrective or reconstructive procedures.
Our surgeons understand the challenges faced by teenagers, especially when it comes to bullying at school due to physical features such as; large ears, noses, or breasts.
If you have a daughter or son who may be interested, we welcome you to schedule a consultation to discuss their options.
ARE YOU TOO OLD FOR PLASTIC SURGERY?
Many patients in their 50s and 60s may wonder if they are too old for plastic surgery. The answer is, if you are in good health, you are not too old. Our surgeons have helped patients of various ages transform their lives through face, body, and breast procedures. Some of our patients have even been as old as 80.
Hospitals
WHICH AUSTRALIAN HOSPITALS DO YOU OPERATE AT IN MELBOURNE?
Our accredited hospitals for major plastic surgery procedures are carefully selected to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and quality care. These hospitals are equipped with fully-qualified medical and surgical staff, and are recognized for their commitment to patient-centered care.
It’s important to note that not all cosmetic surgeons or doctors have operating privileges in hospitals. Choosing to have major surgery in a genuine hospital, rather than in a clinic, provides an added layer of protection and ensures the best possible outcome for our patients.

- CAMPBELLTOWN – Campbelltown Private Hospital
- DARLINGHURST – St Vincent’s Private Hospital Darlinghurst

Anesthetists FAQs
WHO ARE THE ANAESTHETISTS YOU WORK WITH?
Dr Snell collaborates with a select few anesthetists for his surgeries.
Most of our anesthetists have been with us for many years, making them specialists in Plastic Surgery Anesthesia. This leads to a shorter anesthesia experience with reduced risk of postoperative complications and improved postoperative pain management. Our anesthetists, when necessary, arrange for Patient Controlled Analgesia devices to be used for effective pain management during recovery.
All of the anesthetists are fully qualified and experienced in working in accredited hospitals.
Choosing the Best Surgeon for Your Surgery FAQs
WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE THE SURGEON I MET WITH AT MY FIRST CONSULTATION?
Our Surgeons are known for their expertise, caring nature, empathic style and positive communication styles. They aim to provide respect and dignity at all stages of your surgery journey.
If, however, for any reason YOU do not want to proceed with the first Surgeon you met at our clinic, we offer you the chance to meet with another one of our top Specialist Plastic Surgeons to discuss your chosen procedure. This gives you flexibility and choice.
Whilst all of our Cosmetic, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgeons are top surgeons in their areas of expertise, each has a different personality and style of communication. It’s important you feel 100% comfortable with your choice of Plastic Surgeon. So we’re happy to offer a second consultation with another surgeon if you’re feeling uncertain or uncomfortable with the personality or communication style.
All of our Surgeons pride themselves on patient education and on being honest, caring communicators that respect patient dignity.
ARE COSMETIC SURGEONS THE SAME AS PLASTIC SURGEONS?
No – having a FRACS (Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) (Plas) Plastic Surgeon qualification means your doctor is an elite, highly qualified and AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) recognised Specialist Surgeon in the field of Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.
Compare this to a so-called cosmetic surgeon – this could mean anything from being a GP or other doctor who decided to offer cosmetic surgery and breast augmentation WITHOUT undertaking Specialist Plastic Surgery training, exams and RACS qualifications.
TIP: Only an actual RACS recognized Specialist can use the term SPECIALIST PLASTIC SURGEON. If your surgeon is only a cosmetic surgeon, (which is an unprotected medical title anyone can use), they are NOT a Plastic Surgeon. Be sure you understand the differences and ask to see their qualifications.

If your Surgeon is really a Plastic Surgeon, they will have memberships or recognition in these groups:
*Every patient’s treatment plan is unique and will depend on their individual needs and goals. It is important for patients to have a thorough consultation with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon to discuss their options and develop a treatment plan that is right for them.
