Are you considering cosmetic surgery?
If you are considering cosmetic surgery, we suggest you schedule a no obligation consultation with Dr Snell.
At the initial consultation, Dr Snell will take a detailed medical history and examine you to determine your suitability for surgery. The consultation may take about 30 minutes. During the consult you will have the opportunity to view before and after photos of past patients. You will also receive patient information sheets about the surgery you are considering.
It is important to carefully read these materials and come up with any questions to ask during the next consultation. You are welcome to bring someone with you, such as a partner or relative, to help remember all the information.
Before you Book a Consult
As of July 1st, 2023, new AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) guidelines require all patients to obtain a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) before scheduling a consultation with a plastic surgeon. This referral serves as an essential document providing vital information about the patient’s medical history, allowing the plastic surgeon to assess their condition and recommend the most appropriate course of action.
Obtaining a referral is a crucial step in prioritizing patient safety and ensuring that they receive appropriate care. It also facilitates effective communication between the referring GP and the plastic surgeon, promoting coordinated and cohesive care throughout the patient’s journey.
If you are considering plastic surgery and wish to explore your options, the first step is to speak to your GP about your concerns. They will guide you through the referral process and help you connect with a qualified plastic surgeon who can address your specific needs and provide personalized care.
Before you Attend your First Consultation with Dr Snell
Before your first consultation with Dr Broughton Snell, you will complete a patient registration and medical questionnaire form. This form will be sent to you via email or post. This will provide Dr Snell with important medical information, including; your previous medical history, current medications, and contact details.
At Your First Consult
During your first consultation with Dr Snell and his team, a comprehensive review of your medical history will be conducted. This includes; past health conditions, medications, and previous surgeries, ensuring a clear understanding of your overall health and any factors that may impact the surgical procedure.
Dr Snell will take the time to listen to your goals and expectations from the surgery. Understanding your desired outcomes allows him to tailor the treatment plan to meet your specific needs and provide realistic expectations.
A detailed physical examination will also be performed to assess your clinical situation, evaluate the quality of your skin and tissues, and determine your suitability for the surgery.
If your consultation involves procedures requiring implants, such as breast augmentation, Dr Snell will discuss various implant options available to you. He will explain different types, sizes, shapes, and materials, helping you make an informed decision based on your goals and individual anatomy.
Dr Snell will provide a comprehensive explanation of your surgical options, discussing procedural details, expected benefits, and potential complications and risks associated with the surgery. This open and honest discussion is essential for your informed decision-making process and ensures you have a realistic understanding of what to expect.
Transparency regarding risks and complications is a standard practice, prioritizing your safety and well-being. It allows you to make an informed decision and have realistic expectations about the surgery’s outcomes.
During or after this appointment, you will also receive a written quote of the surgical costs from Dr Snell’s team. This quote is valid for one year.
After your First Consultation
After the first consultation, you’ll have time to think about your surgical journey. If you decide to proceed, a second consultation will be scheduled to further discuss the procedure and address any remaining questions you have.
In the meantime, you may find it helpful to read the provided information on choosing a surgeon and understanding the qualifications of a plastic surgeon.
7-Day cooling off period
New guidelines implemented by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) now mandate a 7-day cooling off period after your second consultation. This means that after your initial consultation and subsequent second meeting with Dr Snell, you must wait for seven days before you can schedule a surgery date. This cooling off period provides you with sufficient time to carefully consider your decision and ensure you are confident and fully informed before proceeding with the surgical journey.
If you would like to make an appointment with Dr Snell to discuss a procedure either call or email the team today.
